After an early start on brass instruments, Mark moved to percussion, which he has continued to play for the past twenty years. He has played in many of the countries top brass bands including, Carlton Main Frickley Colliery in the early eighties, Yorkshire Imperial Metals Band, Brighouse and Rastrick, Black Dyke Mills and is currently a member of the Grimethorpe Colliery UK Coal Band.

He has won most of the major competitions including the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall, the British Open and the European Brass Band Championships.

Mark played on the soundtrack and appeared as the Percussionist of Grimley Colliery Band in the international hit film Brassed Off.

Over the last four years he has carried out many overseas tours with Grimethorpe visiting Austrailia three times (playing in the Sydney Opera House), Japan twice, New Zealand and Hong Kong. He will be touring the USA in 2003, performing at Carnegie Hall in New York.

As well as appearing on TFI Friday for channel 4, the BAFTAS and as part of the interval act for the Eurovision Song Contest, Mark has performed on over 40 Vinyl and CD recordings.
