‘Kopanitsa’ was written for star Percussion Soloist, Gavin Pritchard to play at the Entertainment Contest of the Butlins Championships in January 2008. Gavin was awarded the Best Soloist prize for that Premier performance.

It is based on the style and rhythms of Bulgarian Folk Music and requires great dexterity and musicianship from the Soloist who is required to play a range of instruments. The music begins slowly with some plaintive sounds from both Band and Soloist, but it soon becomes a whirlwind tour of excitement and pulsating rhythms culminating in a Tour de Force of semi-quavers building in tempo and intensity right to the end.
