DAVID MORGAN
With a family background in The Salvation Army, brass banding is well and truly in David’s blood. Born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire in 1982, David has played euphonium, trombone and percussion with Worcestershire Youth Brass Band, Stourport on Severn Brass Band, and The Staffordshire Band (where he was a member of the band which was crowned National Champion Band of Great Britain (First Section) in Torquay in 2002). He has now returned to Stourport on Severn as Musical Director, having made Guest Conductor appearances with Staffordshire, and with Lydbrook Silver Band.
By summer 2000, David had achieved a hat-trick of distinctions at ABRSM Grade 8 (in euphonium, piano and music theory), to which he would later add a DipABRSM in Euphonium Performance. However, composing and arranging had long been his first love, and he received a scholarship to Birmingham Conservatoire. Since leaving the Conservatoire in November 2001, David has been busy working as a freelance composer, arranger, conductor and performer - as well as several on-stage appearances, and later stage management roles, in student and semi-professional theatre. As a composer, David’s career includes premieres of his music in Symphony Hall, Birmingham and at the Banff International Music Festival in Canada. His performing experience is eclectic, and includes work on the UK tour of Blood Brothers as well as the world premiere production of KOBA Man of Steel, other musical theatre work, engagements as an accompanist for choirs and soloists (both vocal and instrumental), and appearances with orchestras, wind bands and big bands as well as many chamber ensembles.
David is now Director of Music at St. Mary & All Saints’ Parish Church in Kidderminster, Assistant Musical Director of Bostin’ Pops Productions, and a member of the Dare Quartet, and is also much in demand as a conductor, speaker and workshop leader. He now continues his studies with the Open University and the Royal College of Organists.
