Whilst driving down the freeway sometime in 1977, Amanda McBroom heard some lyrics from a song and related to them. She was inspired, and as soon as she got home started to write a song - The Rose was the result. It was played for her husband George, who quietly said to Amanda "You’ve just written a standard. Mark my words, something is going to happen with this song.”
The song was put forward for a film called 'The Rose', however it was rejected twice by the producers before Paul Rothchild, the music supervisor on the film, sent it to Bette Midler. She liked it, and that’s how it got into the film and changed Amanda's life forever.
The Rose has been coved by many pop bands over the years, and has most recently been a chart topping hit for internationally renowned 'boyband' Westlife!
This arrangement was made by Gavin Pritchard to be played at his wedding to his new wife, Rachel. It is arranged for Cornet Solo with band accompaniment and is accessible to bands of all standards.
