BENJAMIN TUBB
Born in 1988, Ben has always had an active interest in music, learning piano from an early age, and later the cornet and tenor horn. Ben started playing the bugle at a local Boy's Brigade band at the age of 10, and after some encouragement from his mother joined the Yiewsley and West Drayton Training Band on cornet (little did he know that 6 years later he would become a tutor for this same band). Ben progressed to Principal Cornet of the band, getting promoted to the senior band, where he spent many years in the cornet section, becoming 3rd man down at the age of 14. In 2003 Ben found the tenor horn after being given the opportunity to try it at the British Airways band, he immediately felt that this was his instrument, and in 2005 the Solo Horn of the Yiewsley and West Drayton Band, one of the best 2nd section bands in the London region. In mid-2005, Ben joined the Welwyn Garden City band - a championship section band on 1st horn.
More prestigiously, in May 2004 Ben auditioned for the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, and in December of the same year was invited to join the band on it's Easter course, being one of only twelve people who can say they are currently a member of the tenor horn section of NYBB.
Ben has won many competition both at his high school and in his borough.
He came 1st twice in his school's Classical Music Competition, and was awarded the 'Best of Brass' at the Ealing Festival two years running.
Currently Ben is undertaking his A2 levels, and hopes to do a joint course in performance/composition at the Royal Northern College of Music.
